so…. I checked my list of VHS porn and Forbidden Portraits was there, but the coding on the list was a box I just couldn’t find in the last 3 days. Of course it’s in a box up in a storage space above my closet, under several other boxes, behind like 5 medium size backpacks (who knew I had, or needed so many!), and possibly broken fan and a VHS player (player only – a good friend lent it to me years ago, he got it from his Dad who got it from a mattress salesman who would bring his own videotape player to play their promotional tape in folks’ homes….. but I digress). got the box down, sorted through, found the video box you see above, and

To figure out if Yves Anthony is the nom de porn of Richard Rogers? who’s portrayed by Darren Duke? – who is Sebastian in the film?

I give up – let’s just pull this out of “drafts,” edit a bit, and hit “publish”

The Devil and Mr. Jones

First Avenue Screening Room opened in 1973, but by March of 1975 it was renamed Byron Theatre when it began showing gay porn, opening with The Devil and Mr. Jones. This is cover art for my copy of the video, but, alas, I don’t have a “BETA cover art” category (I don’t have a BETA player; but nabbed this and perhaps 3 or 4 others over the years as the word was that BETA was better quality than VHS.), so shoving this into the VHS, and of course the “pet peeve” category – just check the cover, there’s a large version of the front if you need help with what the pet peeve could be in this case.

Can’t recall why this TCS Studios post got started, and remained in the drafts folder for a couple years. A note “8 minutes previews” was my only clue, so I tracked down the clip, and you see it above highlighting some of the 8-10 films from this Studio. I listed only the ones I think were produced by TCS, and if you look at GEVI you’ll see a handful more distributed by them as well.

Of note, as I hadn’t really followed Mark Reynolds career – “Larry Ginsburg (real name) began in 1974 marking film loops under Brentwood’s Starline brand although there were several Starline films he did not do. An interior designer he had never seen films until just before he decided to do his own. After “creative differences” with Brentwood, he founded the Trade!Mark Studio. He formed TCS studios as a separate company with different “standards.” Here he did one film and then used Steve Scott as director because Scott already had done good sound work on Face to Face and Reynolds had not worked with sound. Cameraman Tom Howard said the Reynolds preferred younger guys who had less experience, making the filming more difficult. He was also said to take much more time filming than others like Steve Scott.”

Curious where GEVI gets this from – I show Face To Face as a Steve Scott film (but yes, I agree Scott is great at sound); and Reynolds only doing one film for TCS? – at least half are credited to him! hmmmmmm OK, i am re-reading; he did one film, then got Steve Scott on board, not necessarily to do all the rest of the films for the studio.

I sold this tape back in 2006/7; these are some notes from that eBay auction – and I’ve recently downloaded for your viewing pleasure, a (not too awful) copy of the movie. As you can tell, the description is geared towards what eBay would allow in a description (topping, not fucking) and what buyers were looking for (precondom was the big thing to highlight if it applied). Let me know if this old description holds up! I am posting this without viewing the video – I was actually hoping to get more stills from the magazine, but alas, now that eBay has dried up as a source of pics…. enjoy!
