Whatever the origin date for the individual scenes, the collection did seem to come out in late 1980 with a porn theatrical release. There’s a review from the B.A.R. dated 12-31-80:

The captions beneath the pics on page 28 attribute the cop in uniform at the bottom of the page as Dan Gentry, and Ken’s scene mate from Hot Tub as Bart Sommers. So somebody either messed up the names for this article, or maybe in the years since? But that’s at least one more pic of him for your collection.

After doing so I remember contacting Woody at gevi and telling him that the full movie has seven total scenes, while his listing only showed six. Apparently the version that played at the Nob Hill only included six scenes as well, and based on the B.A.R. review the missing scene was the one with the boa constrictor. I sent him a source and he added the snake scene in the correct placement. Do you have the movie on videotape, and if so how long is it / how many scenes in your copy?
The voice dubbing during the sex in this scene is very effective, when it’s done right like here (or the jeep scene from Inches) it heightens the eroticism. When it sounds more like Huge 1 and especially Summer Of Scott Noll it’s far more intrusive or even unintentionally funny.
I was going to ask about the unknown film on Dan’s gevi page, Boys In The Dark and if you know anything about that (and at least one other thing) but this comment is long enough already.
oh, a lot here – will return to this – my digital copy is 87 minutes, 30 seconds – so longer than GEVI states.and yes, the boa constrictor scene is in it – I saw this in the theatre way back. Yes, 1980 is the copyright date at the end of the film; I’m guessing GEVI lists the range as the individual films may have been created as early as 1978.
let’s start with easy – Boys in the Dark is clearly a cut-up version of The Frenchman and the Lovers – cross reference the actors/models.
I just re-looked at my digital version of Private and behold – it has that notation about BEFORE TIME; so I may need to go to the porn cellar and dig out my VHS, which I thought was an “original” small Hand In Hand (Quality X) tape. But look at the “box cover” art I posted (actually from a Hand In Hand pamphlet) – lists the time as 73 minutes! If this deleted scene was barely 8 minutes, and my digital version has 87:30; that leaves 79 – did they cut out even more when they feared Meese Commission?? (bestiality, I guess? snake and all?) Too many unanswered questions!
arrrrgh! my VHS, with original Quality X box, that states “73 minutes” on the cover, runs 79 minutes! and yes, missing Before Time – so who knows, maybe when I saw it in the theatre, which could have been as early as the release date and complete, or I saw Before Time when it was included with In Heat in 1985….
Yes, Dan Gentry does indeed, have another alias. Remember the shower rape scene, in “Wanted (1980)”? Al Parker relays the army barracks experience, to curious Will Seagers.
