I’ve seen a few of Bressan’s films, Pleasure Beach of course which is probably the best known. And Forbidden Letters is excellent too, one I know you’ve talked about here before. At one point I watched Gay USA which I think was on youtube, it was filmed mostly at SF Pride in 1977 though there may have been short segments from other festivities across the country towards the end. And oh yeah, speaking of youtube there was a cable access show in NYC in the 80s co-hosted by Vito Russo, and in one of the 13 or so episodes made Vito interviewed Art Bressan, it was when he made the film Abuse and they showed a clip or two. Our Time was the name of the show, I can try looking for that clip if I hadn’t mentioned it before and you think it sounds interesting.
But I actually came here to ask you how much you know about Grapik Art studio and Tom ‘Ropes’ McGurk. I know, I know, before you accuse me of grabbing the steering wheel and veering your porn bus off the highway, I searched both the words ‘McGurk’ and ‘Grapik’ and came up with nothing. So I settled on one of the 40-odd hits when I searched for ‘Daddy’ (hmm, there’s a phrase with a lot to read into…) that didn’t have any competing comments.
I reviewed Hard Daddy last night, it came out in 2000 and Jason Branch played the daddy (and was very hot, I liked him a lot during the late 90s when he started showing up). And didn’t find much info about McGurk or Grapik Art studio aside from the little bit on gevi, and a few pics. It seems like Drummer mag would have talked about his films before, maybe even run ads but I came up blank after a few misses selecting issues at random. Just wondered how much you knew about him / the studio or even if you might have some of their movies on VHS?
i know of, but that was when i was selling a lot of porn on eBay – but don’t think I have any of his work – not the era I collect, and yes, I remember Jason Branch in at least one tape. I’ll take a look on hard drive next time I have a chance, but likelihood is html files of the eBay auctions with copied/pasted “reviews” i nabbed from internet back in 2003… ish.
Thanks, anytime you get the chance would be great. Gevi lists their first movie as coming out in 1984 but 87 seems more likely for that one, just based on the other credits for the two performers. Looks like a lot of younger guys as the subs, not sure if that’s universal or just a common thread in their movies. I figured if anyone would have info about an independent smaller studio of kink fare, you’d be the guy who might know something. The company website is still active and churning out titles but requires signing up to view pretty much anything, from what I could tell.
I did finally find an ad in a Drummer, issue 150 for a movie called Well Cinched:

Shifting gears back to the subject matter of this post, I read your page about Dean Johnson, who was in the clip above from Daddy Dearest. You (and his wiki article) both mention that he was the driving force behind ‘Rock & Roll Fag Bar’ at The World nightclub, that made me stop in my tracks because I went there once. Spring of 89, me and a few friends from college drove to NYC on spring break, and I even bought a t-shirt (which I still have!) with those words on the front. And some stripper looking guys in briefs on the back. It’s way too small but it’s a keepsake from long ago now, just thought I’d mention that.
That night the bar played the Shep Pettibone remix of Like A Prayer which had just come out, and the dance floor went from practically vacant to packed with dozens, maybe hundreds of guys who all flocked like zombies as soon as it started up :D
