ya gotta love Fred Halsted‘s personal ad from this 1978 magazine, eh?

I’ve seen this picture before in the #56 June 1981 issue of “In Touch†magazine. He’s in incredible shape. You can see his six- pack but you can’t see his appendectomy. I think he must have taken this picture earlier in time. By 1978 he was wearing his hair short. No, I don’t have to love the actual personal ad, though I love the picture. I never cared for his S/M side. He engaged in certain acts that I choose to believe were not true. (YUCK! SICK!) I’d rather believe Richard Locke when he said he was a real teddy bear. Regardless, he was undeniably one of the most aggressively virile looking men to appear in all male porn. You wouldn’t dare call him a queen. It wasn’t as earth shattering an experience as when I first saw Gordon Grant, but very powerful none the less. He looked blazing in a dirty t-shirt from the original “El Paso Wrecking Corp.†poster. The bait worked. Specifically because of that image, I summoned up the nerve to see both EPWC and KCTC on a double bill in either 1978 or 1979. Those two were the first gay porn films I saw in an adult theater.
In his prime he was movie star handsome. I wish Jim French would have photographed him. He’s like a rougher, less refined, Charlton Heston. He’s also uncannily similar to Phil Carey in looks, voice, and manner. They could pass as brothers. From some angles he looks like Guy Madison. I’m glad he never grew a beard. He had a wide sensual mouth with a slightly sneering, pulpy upper lip. I love it that both he and Richard Locke have leering smiles. Unfortunately he’s not always great looking or glamorous. In “Erotikusâ€, he’s clearly wasted. In some of his later films he looks like a cave man. He let himself go. I agree with your assessment of his career in your Halsted intro. It was pretty hit and miss. But nothing will make me forget my two favorites, “El Paso Wrecking Corp.†and “Pieces of Eightâ€. They’re so raw! The tag line for Cosco Studios also delighted me, “Damn Good Menâ€. Have you ever seen this picture of him? I stumbled upon it by misspelling his name in a Google search. He looks so right in a cowboy hat:
It’s appalling that smutjunkies.com doesn’t list him. It’s so sad how he ended up. “El Paso Wrecking Corp.†ends with a freeze frame image of him smiling bashfully. In retrospect this now seems haunting. Sorry for the endless comment BJ. But you always have a way of getting me started by bringing up my favorites. You’re partly to blame. ; )

What were the “certain acts,” true or not?
