where I trained in 1978

I know we did the flashback music project – ID’ing the music from AL PARKER’s film (did we get it all); but this preview/cumming attraction popped up and thought, why not? I do wish the pic above was better – without the insert, for one. I do like Kirk Mannheim’s look in this film – a tad scruffier? maybe the ‘stache is just a bit fuller than his work for Falcon? You know what I wish was included in the glossy hardcore magazine that SURGE Studios put out with Kirk and Al? Kirk before taking the red t-shirt off – fully clothed and hot!
a bit more Kirk Mannheim elsewhere on BJland
can’t recall where I snagged this little clip – but meanwhile, whatever happened to that David Hurles documentary Joe Gage was working on a few years back?
who you may remember from such films as:
Vincent for PAEAN Studios, Vito Milan for FOX Studios, and Brutus for COLT and Palm Drive Video. The first 3 studios all late 1970’s (even though COLT did publish a few pics in the 1980’s – see below), and then his work seemed to focus on Drummer (Wings Video I would include with Drummer) and Palm Drive. According to Jack Fritscher, Brutus was the most frequent model ever featured on the cover of Drummer. Sounds like another research project, as I have yet only to find the 2 featured below!
who you may remember from such magazines as:
update: added pic and added ID –
Director: Robert Payne (John Embry?) (1985)
Joys of Self Abuse (1985)
I can’t remember why I was breaking down this video into who’s segment lasted how long – but here you go. I will say, Ken Bergquist, again, fails to impress. I guess he was best as a still life model.
featured in DRUMMER 80
also in Studflix Vol. 4 No. 4 June 1985 (Review)
Again drafts folder talk? Yes. So, another idea/theory – Jack Wrangler probably appears in a jockstrap in at least 1/2 his films. Maybe, maybe not. So I tried to list which ones I am certain he wears one, and got stuck (distracted) but suffice to say if you are reading this I decided to “crowd source” the idea and get some help. Heavy Equipment – of course! Remember when he is cleaning the gym, and throws a couple jocks at the camera (3D effect – awesome!) And of course, Killing Me Softly – the PLOT is centered around a jockstrap – it’s the murder weapon!
so maybe linking to Jack’s GEVI page will help y’all help me – comment below (or is that above?) the film title, the scene – hey! link to or email me pics if you can!
ASK ANY BUDDY
AND THE GOLDEN AGE OF ALL-MALE ADULT CINEMA
October 20 – October 25
“The video component of a multimedia project that also encompasses an acclaimed podcast and Instagram feed, Elizabeth Purchell’s ASK ANY BUDDY compiles fragments from over 125 feature films to create a kaleidoscopic, dreamlike snapshot of the era. An official selection of nearly two-dozen international film festivals including BFI Flare and Outfest, ASK ANY BUDDY is a funny, sexy portrait of urban gay life in the years following the Stonewall Riots – or at least how it looked in the movies.”
how embarrassing – I don’t see any reference to this film on this here rambling blog! (must be jealousy…combined with laziness, or that dang “drafts folder”!) – anyhow, New Yorkers, if you haven’t seen this, you should – and try to do a double feature with one of the other featured film during this rare porn fest (now, do I have opinions on porn movies shown in theaters without backrooms, gloryholes, or other type dark crevices for friendship building? I do. yes, yes, i do. – but another time)
If you’ve never seen any of these on the big screen, I highly recommend seeing all of them; if that’s not possible, of course the headliner, ASK ANY BUDDY, plus at least Al Parker’s Turned On, Headtrip (which I don’t believe I’ve ever seen), and 10:30PM MONDAY (which I never really got interested in because Bijou Video had some COLT imagery on the cover, which I knew was wrong… ) but I digress. The Night Before I’ve actually seen there at Anthology (2001), and they do have these porno programs from time to time – check out my attempt at some form of ancient html back in 2002 for the Reflecting Poole – June 19-23, 2002 Wakefield Poole series. I’m rambling…but oooh, just took a peak at 10:30pm, and that would be my priority! Especially to see if they have a good quality, and complete print – the 33minute version on line can’t be right.
scroll to bottom of post for brief clip from 10:30PM
One last note – I do wish there were an x-rated version of the promo / preview – I get it for youtube, but jeez – can’t vimeo, or someone host an x-rated promo that promotes what the film does – celebrates gay (male) sex!
