Arch Brown in the name of leather pornoclips

LEATHER BOUND

aka The Leather Bond – my theory, based on nothing, is that the name got changed when it went to video as the early 1980’s and Reagan’s Meese Commission and the “war on pornography” wanted to take the s/m-ness out of the title. Again, theory based on nothing. I don’t even know if there was any actual bondage: as I think the lose theme threading the scenes together is a leather cock ring. The clip is super short – if any interest, I can dig the video out and nab more.

Director: Arch Brown (1975)

Starring: Kristoffer Streate, Myerson Grant, Robby Peterson, Larry Quill and Anton Lewis.

It’s interesting that the same Leather Bond / Leather Bound confusion exists with the Fox Studio loop starring Tom LeDuc and Tex Murdock, that was part of Muscle Up. Most of the time that scene is listed as ‘bond’ as shown on gevi:

But I’ve also seen it titled as ‘bound’, both the scene as well as the title for the Patrick Cowley song on the Dark Entries album Afternooners:

Honestly when I encounter alternate spellings for loops, films or actor names I generally chalk it up to illiteracy or poor copy editing, I don’t think ensuring the correct spelling of anything was ever too high a priority in gay porn, past or present. There are lots of examples of actor names being off by one letter, maybe sometimes that was intentional (like if the guy is contracted to only do scenes for one company) but other times it looks like it’s misspelled because whoever was responsible for that just shrugged it off.

I think the original title has more cachet. Wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t have any alternate titles, names, misspellings, etc. It would make things a lot easier.

There’s some satisfaction in knowing that we won the “war on pornography.” Or at least the battle. I suppose the war rages on. Reminds me of an Ed Wood film from the 1950s, “The Sinister Urge,” which posited that all crime was directly related to and/or caused by “the smut racket.”

“Leather Bound” looks capable of giving me a sinister urge! You can’t keep a good porno down.
