LEDERMEISTER: BODY AND SOUL “ THE AGONY AND THE ECSTACY!
As an ex-altar boy, I always say, I left the church, but the church never left me. I still find so many aspects of the Catholic Church and its tradition, to be so awesome and beautiful. : )
So you could imagine my delight and curiosity, to learn that Paul Gerrior aka Ledermeister, actually spent time in a seminary! He revered both the sacred and the profane. As do I. : )
I alternate between wanting to be a saint, or a libertine. LOL!
He was a practicing Catholic, up until he died. How I wish he would have disclosed his inside story!
He used to play the piano at the Most Holy Redeemer Church, a Roman Catholic parish situated in the Castro district, San Francisco! I love discovering this “ fabulous! : )
I love this picture where he’s assuming a sculptural pose – so poetic and lyrical!
It really strikes a chord in my soul so beautiful and spiritual! Jim French could also be pretty deep. Was this his idea, or was it Paul Gerrior’s? Maybe it was combination of both. : 0
I kept meaning to comment on this post, but I just never gone around to it. It now has a special resonance and poignancy to me, learning about his faith and recent death. : (
He’s behind a window that suggests a stain glass painting, built inside a church wall.
What a beautiful, open mouth expression! His eyes are looking toward heaven. He seems to be writhing in either pain, or pleasure. : 0
It recalls a lot of aesthetic images and art work – both religious and pagan. I first thought about Saint Sebastian, and the Crucifixion. But there are also all the various “slave†sculptures of Michelangelo.
So many paintings and sculptures combine the sensual and spiritual. Look at Bernini, and other Italian and Greek works – marvelous!
My hat is off to BJ, for finding this magazine cover. I appreciate that it present Paul Gerrior aka Ledermeister, up close and personal – beautiful! : )
I hoped I could find a “pure†version of this, without all the magazine lettering.

This is another beautiful picture from the same shoot. Ledermeister had such a flesh and blood presence. Just look at his abs! He seems to offer himself, as a naked sacrifice to either God or us. : 0
As the song goes, “I’d gladly surrender myself to you, body and soul.†: )
Actually, the presence of such beautiful men like Ledermeister and Gordon Grant, among others, is proof to me, that God exists! I consider them gifts from heaven. Hallelujah! LOL!
