Et … Dieu créa les Hommes (1978) – AKA And God Created Men
back in 2006 I ALMOST sold this – I can see I kept the draft of an auction – and I think I may have the TMX box, plus another plain copy – my digital version was made by a pal who borrowed a bunch of films, digitized for themself, then let me have the digital copies as well as returning my VHS tapes. (Aaaarggh! but now I can’t locate it, and wanted to do a scan of the box cover, since I had the TMX version).
Meanwhile some years back I acquired this old French version of “IN” magazine, which had two photos from the film. What I remember about the film is murky – I did get to see it in the theatre – lovers have a quarrel, one takes off in his car and gets in car accident. The other has a lot of sleazy sex, including phone sex where he is so turned on the phone receiver goes up/in his butt! Anyway, here’s the promo for the film.

I sense a theme going here – Cadinot, Bete Noire, this movie and then French Lt.’s Boys. Have you got a Frenchman (or a French Canadian maybe) strapped down in your porn dungeon? Ooh la la! ;)
This movie is interesting, and you’re right that the phone sex scene where he shoves the entire handset up his ass is very memorable. Especially the cord hanging out making him seem like a pig. What I recall about watching that, you can still hear the voice of the person he was talking to but it’s muffled, which was more realism than I was expecting. That and he didn’t wipe the phone down after he came and yanked it out, then the next morning he picks up the phone to make a call. Hopefully they edited out the part where he woke up in the middle of the night and got a wet soapy rag to clean it..
The other scene of note (aside from the rather wistful ending after he learns his lover has died) was using mayo from a discarded sandwich as lube when he lets the two guys in the alley take turns fucking him. I liked Et Dieu and thought it had a good story to prop up and explain the sex the main guy is having.
Hervé Joseph Lebrun made a documentary sometime last decade I guess, called Mondo Homo: A Study of French Gay Porn in the ’70s. I have not seen it, have you? The subject matter alone looks like it could be entertaining. He has a blog though it’s in French, link here:
