I haven’t been able to convert any of my VHS to digital since I got a new computer nearly a year ago. Alas, hardware/software blahblahblah wasn’t compatible, and, the new computer oddly has less storage space than the old. Long story short, got additional storage, new conversion hardware, and new conversion software (actually 2, one “works” the other doesn’t – yet). So, I figured why not test with that VHS tape I bought inadvertently with a bundle, but led to a question of whether a guy from the corresponding magazine was in it or not (VHS box shows no sign – no image, no name) – and GEVI lists a couple stars who have no corresponding image or other porn work that we can tell. Then the digitizing was a struggle, and the first run was a 16 gigabyte file – not at all sustainable! Especially for a shitty 1985 video, right? But during playback, I realized that it was picking up the music I was listening to (Billy Bragg & Wilco) via the PC, and now it’s on the tape! I put that aside, tried to do a test run without this issue, and then, suddenly, NO SOUND AT ALL! 12 hours of experimenting later, I get to record a rare Chris Burns tape – more on that another time – but I don’t dare listen to music while recording, at least for now.
Where was I – so the surprise wasn’t that Beau Matthews – pictured above and below from the magazine, Wave Riders which promises to show you the “scenes behind the scenes as you view outakes from the Ocean Pacific videotape” ( Wave Riders AKA Hang 10) – wasn’t in the film, but that another fairly familiar guy, was!
As the movie starts, the credits list – Andrew Barrington (AKA Bill Crane), Paul Harris, Rick Kennedy, Teddy Moore, John Black, introducing Marc Fox. Skimming through, there are 6 Scenes. No Beau from what I can tell, but Don Bishop (who you may remember as Skip Wilson via Falcon)!!! He’s paired off in scene 5, and solo (shown above) for the finale.
And then there’s the issue (AKA rabbithole) that I am not, yet, pursuing regarding the production company, Ocean Pacific, which only made just this one movie, and the (somewhat) corresponding magazine. Gotta have something to do with the clothing company, right? So the connection to College Station? Certainly at least Don Bishop – oh, and there’s an ad in the magazine for another magazine, called American Centermen which shows a small pic of Don Bishop – so why wasn’t he credited? And I have a handful of pics from that magazine, with a great photo of Mickey Squires – another rabbithole to go down! (Did I mention there’s a cute pic of Beau in OP shorts?)

I’m pretty sure I even meant to make a comment here [Don Bishop & Beau Matthews – so hot!] so shame on me. But sometimes I get lazy in the middle of the night. Sometimes I practically fall asleep on the keyboard. That’s why I’m on the interwebs in the middle of the night in the first place. To try to make me sleepy so I can get some sleep for pete’s sake!!

To be fair (to me) this was a slightly confusing post BJ. I’m still trying to work it out many days later. I do want to validate your journey though, buddy. We’ve all fallen down the rabbit hole. Some of us down there more often than not, right?

OK, I actually re-read this a couple times and a lot of it did start to make more sense to me. It’s all there if you just give it the attention it deserves. It’s like those posters that you had to stare at until the picture would suddenly appear. Remember those?
In the Wave Riders magazine, Beau Matthews appears in the section called “Surfer Playmates” with a friend, (actually two friends as you show above) and the names credited are Teddy Moore/Mark Fox (your top photo here). The names Teddy Moore and Mark Fox are also both credited in the film. Are we sure Beau wasn’t credited in the film under one of those names? When I check those names at GEVI there is zero info. Or could those be the names of the other two models in the Wave Riders mag photo layout? The more I think about this, the more confused I become. You’ve probably got all this figured out already anyway. If you say he’s not in the film, I’m sure he isn’t. I don’t have a copy to check myself.
Phew. You got me going. That post had me veering around, dodging rabbit holes. Still does. Must. Look. Away.

So if Don Bishop was uncredited/miscredited in the film, (and he was in 2 scenes!) then couldn’t Beau Matthews have been also? And which copy of the film do you have? Is it distributed by HIS Video? That company known to have released tapes that were mercilessly edited to ribbons, just randomly cutting out scenes? Hmmm? You see what I’m getting at.
I need to let this go! Losing my grip here. That’s it. I’m starting a support group for frustrated fans of vintage gay porn. I’ll be the only one there, but I can always talk to myself. Look, I’m doing it right now!
I can’t get this out of my head…one of my absolute favorite mags/movies is Axe Master w/ Don Talon. The pic of Don Bishop suddenly ring the bell…Don Bishop is the bottom that Don Talon fucks before the blonde, yet when I check GEVI, there is no credit for this film??? Can someone pls verify I’m not crazy that Don Bishop is the brunette bottom that Don Talon fucks first in Axe Master pls?

Thanks for confirming I’m not (that) crazy! Not to doubt the MASTER of Porn, I tried to verify your post. I took out my copy of Axe Master and went through EVERY PAGE and could not find any credit for Don Bishop in the magazine. How did you verify this (other than the obvious eyeball test)? Was it referenced in a Falcon ad for Axe Master magazine (but oddly not credited in the actual mag)?
if you follow the GEVI link – they credit Don, under the name Skip Wilson – (AX MASTER is under STEAM HEAT VHS) but while I don’t have the full FALCON FILE #3, i am sure you are correct that the “backpacking companions” are not ID’d – not unusual.
so. short answer – yes, visual ID on my part, and then note-taking (and searching my own blog when memory fails – But I’m with you – TRUST BUT VERIFY!!
