Men Play

OK you guys, from last time we looked at Games Men Play we got additional tunes, as well as some model I.D.s – since I was already going to make another post with scene 2 (cuz something about Stanley Richards – probably his role in Killing Me Softly , he might even be wearing the same clothes here – but I digress) – let’s see if I got all the actors/models correct (I prefer to take them off the credits, then make notations for corrections/additions), and all the tunes, as well (thank you zephyr, Casey) – feel free to add/correct in the comments and I will edit those in. Oh wait, the original reason for posting this scene is the music ID for the opening of the scene – so so familiar, likely used in other pornos, but it’s embedded in my 80’s porn theatre brain.. HELP ME!!

Director: Beau Janson (AKA John Christopher) – Games Men Play (1979) –

Starring – Jimmy West, Aarron Clark, Bob Studds (AKA Bob Presley), Mike Horne; also starring: Malcom Rodgers, Richard Danials, Nick Romano (no, not 90’s Nick!), Lee Alexander; WITH: Adam de Haven, Marcus Steward, Ron Hudd (non-sex), Carrie Simms (that’s from the credits, but we found at least 2 names not on the list who should be – Jayson MacBride and Stan (or Stanley) Richards – likely they went by another name for this film?)

update/re-edit:

  • Theme From “The Warriors” – Barry De Vorzon
  • Saturday Night, Sunday Morning – Thelma Houston
  • Evolution – Giorgio Moroder
  • Love is the Ultimate – Ultimate (scene 2)
  • Doin’ The Best That I Can – Bettye LaVette
  • incidental 3 – Arthur Fiedler/Boston Pops
  • From East to West – Voyage (construction site scene)???? maybe not?
  • Come Into My Heart / Good Loving – Boris Midney

The opening of scene 2 as Aaron and Stanley smoke pot and talk is Giorgio Moroder’s “Evolution”. It’s been in soooooooo much gay porn, a long side-length track from his 1978 “Music from Battlestar Galactica” LP.

thanks for the link!

so now I have to add “Beau Janson” (AKA “John Christopher” for gay stuff and AKA “Chris Corvina” for str8 stuff?)

and i added a music link for EVOLUTION – because it totally takes me back to the porno theatres of my youth (well, 20’s, 30’s, etc)

Chris Corvina was his real name (usually called Chris Covino by those who knew and worked with him), but he used “John Christopher” on everything except, weirdly, GAMES MEN PLAY which he signed with “Beau Janson”.

This was so hard for me, for a variety of reasons (and excuses) that I’ll list below. I’m not confident this info is exactly right, and I didn’t uncover any additional music so please consider this a rough draft that can be expanded upon:

* barry de vorzon – the warriors (theme) [00.36-05.08]
* thelma houston – saturday night sunday morning [05.09-15.25]
* incidental 1
* giorgio moroder – evolution [16.21-20.14]
* ultimate – love is the ultimate (medley) [20.15-27.33]
* incidental 2
* bettye lavette – doin’ the best that i can [31.33-40.02]
* bluegrass [42.14-43.35]
* usa-european connection – come into my heart/good loving [43.36-51.18?]

If ‘From East To West’ by Voyage plays anywhere I missed it. Also from the parts I listened to, both ‘The Warriors (Theme)’ and ‘Baseball Furies Chase’ by Barry de Vorzon have the same refrain playing as they begin, so one may be interchangeable with the other.

My excuses: my hearing isn’t that great anymore; I went by the clip I found on my review and the volume is only at about 50%; so many of these songs were super long disco medleys that blend from one tune into another (Ultimate and USA/European Connection); whoever arranged the music didn’t really mix songs into one another like a DJ would, but it’s kind of jumpy, and songs may start, stop and start back up again; I’ve (still) never used shazam or any app like that so when it’s instrumental music I’m often at a loss unless it’s a super obvious one that everybody knows.

It left me frustrated that I couldn’t be a more definitive source and this may even add to the confusion, but hopefully somebody will be able to pick up the pieces (THAT’S an instrumental disco song I know lol but I didn’t hear it here) and put them together someday.

super helpful – I’m going to re-edit my list, but “incidental” means – unidentified music, no music?

just after the Jayson MacBride scene, there’s a tad of Boston Pops – I thought From East to West – Voyage – was next, when they were at the construction site, at around the 40minute mark… and i hear something, vaguely disco-y, but way way too low and background-y, and then yes, some bluegrass once they get in the car, and I don’t hear it again

I used ‘incidental’ similar to the intro section of the wikipedia article, often classical or instrumental sounds that may or may not derive from an actual pre-existing source:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incidental_music

As much of this music as was stolen it could easily have been film score music from anywhere, but not so much an actual song that was released like the disco tunes mostly are. Just a shorthand way of describing it when I’m trying to take notes of songs and when they start and stop, pay attention to the movie and maybe my dick too (though that last one often gets delayed as I can only multitask so much) :D

It could be that the Voyage tune plays when you said but I didn’t place it, though that doesn’t mean it’s not there. Since this was your second recent post about this film and its music I wanted to at least give it a go and expand the notes I had, and try to help provide a base anyway. There are a few times where the music completely stops, and all that’s heard is dialogue or background sounds.
