I’ll never get tired of Lee Marlin – scamp! I’ll always have something to say! Like Ledermeister, he always brings a smile to my face – pure joy! He’s gotta have it! : D
You might as well admit it; you love him too! So did the camera – frisky little critter! He truly was born for porn – always horny and hedonistic! As I’ve said ad nauseam, his eyes were filled with mischief – The Huck Finn of All-Male Porn!
He obviously enjoyed sex – so greedy and impatient! Notice how he’s always clenching, his pelvic floor muscles – just can’t wait to thrust! You see this often, in his action photos! Born horny, indeed!
“The Grease Monkeys (1979)”, was the first movie I saw him in! Love the opening title strut, “Happiness”! I recognize the Glendale location!
There’s a beach three-way, with Kip Knoll and Derek Stanton – sex sandwich! He makes the scene sizzle! Just having Kip and Derek go at it, wouldn’t have worked for me! : |
The “meat” in the sandwich, is what provides the flavor! I consider Knoll and Stanton, just the slices of bread! “A sandwich is just a sandwich. But a “manwich” is a meal!” Marlin makes the scene hearty! BURP! LOL!
There’s another scene in a disco, where he dances like a klutz – good naturedly! It just adds to his charm – bumpkin! LOL!
The movie ends with Nick Rodgers, beer in hand, making a toast. Do you remember the exact wording? I can’t find it online. Lee has the last word, as he says something like “…and plenty of cock sucking ass for everyone!” Or it’s something else, along those lines. : )
His personality even comes through, in print! Paean Studios celebrated masculinity! Most of the models were mature. But the three younger models: Lee Marlin, Dennis Johnson, and Mark Wolf/Brandon, were also very masculine!
There’s unwritten rule in Hollywood, that one shouldn’t casts actors, who seem too similar – variety and contrast needed. I’m glad Joe Gage bucked this trend, when casting “L.A. Tool & Die (1979)”.
Both icons, Dan Pace/Rocky Genero, and Paul Barresi; resemble each other, to a degree – two brusque, rugged, manly, hairy, Italians! Mama mia – so vivid! But Johnny-MyPet-Llama is right! They each stand alone.
It’s fascinating that Paean featured Lee Marlin, in a photo lay-out, with each of them – wonderful!
Discovering more of Barresi’s print work, these last few years, has really made me warm up to him (still don’t trust him).
Paean Studios, really was on the mark! Lee and Paul look great together – father/son warmth! Who knew, or would have guessed?
Paean published a separate magazine in 1979, called “Pander #1”. This time, Dan Pace and Lee Marlin were featured – in color! Male bodies, either young or mature, are always hot! These two are choice!
It also has a fraternal dynamic – moving! Love the contrast in bodies – hairy/smooth, dark/light! Also love how they explore each other – sensual and warm!
Ah, it’s nice to see a different side, from these two! They’re both capable of showing depth. Lee in particular, tones down his usual rambunctiousness, for both layouts! : 0
Anyway, I’ve been waiting to share this tame picture, with you – teasing! This is as good a place as any – plenty of room! The b & w photography looks luminous! Lee seems to glow! Great skin, so glad he never got tattoos – at least, on his body! Sorry zephyr, I prefer him WITHOUT the mustache. : )
He is just too cute – his lewd facial expression! He loves being naughty! Look how he pulls down his jockstrap – so knowing! zephyr is right! His body looks good, from any angle – his thighs!
He has some of the same, warm toughness, that you see from the very young, Jeff Bridges or Kurt Russell – bruiser! Falcon Studios probably didn’t use him, because he looks too scrappy – rascal!
Lee Marvin is forever!
I’m pretty sure; this won’t be the last time, which you post about him! I’m ready! : D
; )
I remember tipping BJ off to a few of the Lee pics where he grew his out his stash, I agree that he was super sexy from all angles without it as well. Some guys can’t pull facial hair off but I really liked the way he looked with it, in Boys Of Riverside Drive where he has this dorky but sincere and cute way of singing Happy Birthday as a singing telegram. Unfortunately his bedroom sex scene cuts back and forth to the couple in the living room which throws off the continuity.
Grease Monkeys is great, you got the line almost exactly right too so you must have committed that to memory! ‘Plenty of cocksucking ass for everybody’ only it’s not at the very end of the film, rather right when the three of them (Lee, Nick Rogers and Kip Noll) clean up and get to the bar to dance. To the strains of One More Minute by Saint Tropez, which is followed by the very memorable scene later where Nick fucks himself to I’m In Love With My Car by Queen. It ends with Lee and Kip outside the station telling Nick to hurry up so they can go home, and Nick says ‘don’t worry monkeys, it’s all in a day’s work’ then Happiness starts up again so they can strut away like it began.
The clip I found online has Lee saying that line right at 53 minutes, let me know if you can’t find it for yourself. I did a review of that one and just updated the link since the previous one had expired, but I won’t link that as you said you have trouble getting into reddit. Great pics and details about Lee as usual!
zephyr – My little williwaw of fresh air! ; )
“… plenty of cock sucking ass for everybody!” : D
Oh wow! You’re absolutely right! It was at the disco! My memory isn’t as steel-trapped, as it used to be – aging! Why was that beer toast so branded in my brain, as being spoken, toward the end? : |
Isn’t BJ wonderful; posting that scene?! It saved me the trouble, of searching for it, online – time saving! Both of you have my back! I’m honored! : )
The Grease Monkeys is pretty pivotal, in my porn experience – indelible! It was one of the earliest porn movies, I saw in a theater!
Ah, the memories I have, of going to the Century Theater, in Hollywood! It was a legit movie theater, before it went porn!
I wanted to go to the live shows, but they would only show them at night! You also had to have a private, membership card – too scared! Lots of smoking in the lobby, and the back row! I can still smell it! Cough-cough!
They served popcorn, candy, coffee, and soft drinks! But ironically, no hot dogs! LOL! Lots of action in the women’s bathroom, because it was twice as big, as the men’s! The men’s bathroom was only legitimately used, for pissing and hand washing! The theater later burned down! : (
I believe the roller skate scene (Derek Stanton & Eric Ryan) from “The Boys of Venice” was filmed there.
You got a lot of fuck for your buck! They would always show a double feature, with previews! A movie would premiere there, as the first main attraction. A number of months later, it would come back, as the second feature! Or an older vintage movie like “The Experiment”; would be the second billing. They seemed to show a William Higgins’ movie, every few months – prolific!
The Century Theater helped release “The Grease Monkeys” on video! As they did with “The Rivermen”! At one point, you could buy it on VHS or Beta, in the lobby! I need to get rid of THIS link. BJ already posted this!
I told BJ this. You may, or may not, remember. Between screenings, I was waiting in the lobby. When who should walk in, straight from the street, but Nick Rodgers and Melchor together – couple?
It surprised me, how short Nick was – less than six feet! Melchor was even shorter. He said something to the concession guy, on how the videos were displayed – ego? And then they left, right away.
In hindsight, I wished I would have asked him, what it was like, working with Gordon Grant. “Hot Truckin’ (1978)” was Nick’s first movie! But I was too shy, and haven’t seen the movie yet. He looked especially hot in that movie, with a full head of hair! To think both Nick and Melchor, would later die from A.I.D.S. : (
BJ rightly observed, that the synchronized walking strut, during the opening and closing credits; was obviously influenced, by the beginning of “Saturday Night Fever (1977) – Stayin’ Alive”!
Wasn’t “Happiness (1978)”, the perfect song to “appropriate (i.e. steal)”, for a porn film? I love the way the chorus is shrieked in harmony – “COMING!” Or one could say, “CUMMING!” : )
You better tell me you were a fan of the Pointer Sister, zephyr! : )
They were so great – absolutely fabulous! They transcended the description, of mere “girl group” – so innovative, versatile, and daring!
I so love that we appreciate the same things – wavelength! I think I’m in agreement with you, more than BJ! At this point, you practically finish my sentences! Lee Marlin was so adorable!
Here’s to my fellow “pornoisseur”! Stay cool and breezy! : )
You’re fabulous too, BJ! Thanks!
; )
I visited some porn theatres in my time, which didn’t start until I hit adulthood in the mid 80s. I remember watching (and much later, reviewing) Two Handfuls which had the scene with Mike Henson and Kevin Wiles buying tickets at a porn theatre, then stopping off at a concession stand before going inside, and finding Steve Wright for their threeway. I wonder if that was shot at the Century then? Because what struck me is how every adult theatre I ever went to, had MAYBE one or two functioning vending machines, but nothing like a lobby or snack station.
I know from seeing A Night At The Adonis that they served snacks too, another older legit theatre that switched to porn in its later years. The Bijou in Chicago had a lobby with many porn films available to rent or buy, but no snacks that I recall there either. Though I only went there a few times mostly in the very late 80s and 90s. Maybe BJ remembers what it looked like when he used to frequent that one. The main attraction at the Bijou were the cavernous rows of glory holes up the spiral staircase on the second floor, ah memories of that! I think at least a few porn scenes or maybe even full length films, were recorded there.
Viewing porn in theatres with other guys around in the audience, had this sense of camaraderie to it. Even if not all the rest of the guys were your type there was a sense that we were all there for the same purpose and entertainment, on or off the screen. This is a great (and quite long, over three and a half hours!) clip someone put together with porn theatre sex scenes, not sure if I ever told you or BJ about this or not. The clip creator even helpfully identifies the names of the films as a title card before each scene starts – theme porn clip!
He includes the scene from Two Handfuls and many others you’ll no doubt recognize, though he skipped at least a few. For instance George Payne and Casey Donovan didn’t have sex in the theatre per se in The Back Row but there was a blowjob scene with a sailor before that, which could have been included as well. Jerry Douglas revisited that setting in at least three of his 90s films which are found in that clip, by the safe sex era (Trade-Off, Kiss-Off and The Diamond Stud).
Finally my dear friend, yes I liked the Pointer Sisters too, though I mostly know their top 40 hits from the radio in the 70s and early 80s. Then of course their mega hit mid 80s album with Automatic, Jump, I’m So Excited and the rest of those. I used to have that record in fact and listened to it a lot in high school, good times! Thanks for sharing some of your memories of Grease Monkeys, it is a classic film that still works as well today I think. Cheers!
Oh my God, zephyr! I really MUST make this, my last reply – too self indulgent! You seem to always lure me back in, with some fascinating detail or info. – can’t resist! : D
We’ve got to stop meeting like this! BJ is getting suspicious! LOL!
I fast forwarded on the three hour link, you posted. Where do you find these incredible links! Always on the ready! I also checked out;”Two Handfuls (1986)”, online. I know I previously rented it, but so many porn films, blur in my mind. As I’ve said before, I was so impatient – lots of other, fast forwarding!
I did a Google search, to find out when The Century Theater burned down. The best it could give me was the late ‘80’s (’88, ’89?).
So “T.H.”, may have very well, been filmed there! There are quite a few details, which seem familiar! The box office did face Hollywood Blvd., with heavy traffic. The theater was huge, with red chairs! Plus, the lobby, with fancy, dark wall paper – déjà vu! Even the wall telephone, rings a bell! LOL!
I was going to mention “The Dirty Picture Show (1980)” previously, but I deliberately edited myself! That was filmed at the Vista Theater, near Sunset Blvd. Le Sex Shoppe book store was across the street!
The huge Vista was also at one time, a legitimate, vintage theater! At one time also, it was a revival house, and then it switched to gay porn. Quentin Tarantino now owns it!
They actually would have gay porn marathons, which lasted for hours (24?), with a buffet! I was still in high school, while reading this in the L.A. Times!
I can’t really say “HANDsome (1981)” is my favorite, Joe Gage film. Though I admit, it’s pretty clever (“Hello, Joe?”). I admire, rather than actually, enjoy it. Few of the guys, I truly find appealing.
What strikes me again, about the clip from “Juice (1984)”; is how malleable, Michael Christopher’s face is – amazing! Here, he looks so handsome, in close-up! Yet at other times, he can seem pretty unsightly! It all depends, on how he’s photographed! : 0
Wow, the porn geek who assembled this, truly was dedicated! And I thought I, was a fanatic!
Of course, there’s a lot of “artistic license” with these scenes! I’m aware of oral, not anal, action taking place! Watch out, for the undercover cops!
Some of these theaters had ironic destinies! The Pussycat Theater was a famous chain for straight porn. As soon as I turned 18, I went to the one in Santa Monica.
My first porn film was “The Opening of Misty Beethoven (1976)”. At the time, I didn’t get the double entendre, of the film’s title. It was a “Pygmalion” type of sex comedy.
Calvin Culver aka Casey Donovan, was in the cast, wearing eye shadow! To think, I first saw him engaging in heterosexual action, before homo. His “straight” scene; was a “conversion” with Constance Money.
Get this! There was a Pussycat Theater on Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood. It had cement footprints of famous straight porn stars; ala, the famous, Grauman’s Chinese Theater – Movie Stars!
It was converted into a gay porn theater, with a new name. You guessed it! The new name was the Tomkat Theater – clever! It went through even more changes!
Could one of these movie clips, have been filmed there? I remember the theater, had reclining red chairs – classy and huge!
“Catching Up (1975)” should have also been included – pretty hilarious! Tom DeSimone directed both this, and “The Dirty Picture Show” – familiar theme and motif! Maybe you already knew this!
I may later discuss, the theater I first saw Gordon Grant in; “Lifeguard (1978)”, around 1983! Stay tuned! : )
For now, I simply MUST, wrap this up! Please don’t tempt me, with irresistible information! You’re always so enjoyable! Please forgive me, BJ! zephyr made me do this! LOL!
Stay cool and breezy! You too, BJ – patience! Cheers, to the both of you! : )
; )
I’m so glad you left that last link, it turns out I had left a comment with the same porn clip here before. Only it was on a different tube site than the one I linked above earlier but seems to be exactly the same content. I can think of a few more that could have been added too but at 3 1/2 hours I’d say that’s a very comprehensive breakdown of films that included the setting.
I just rewatched the opening to that scene from Two Handfuls myself, and did some digging about the theatre. But I couldn’t find anything more specific about when it closed either, just the late 80s timeframe as indicated by some comments. Your cinema blog link was fascinating and had some great pics, of both the Tomkat as well as the Century which was linked along the side.
All I really have to add are a few links of my own with more pics of the Century that I stumbled upon, for sure everyone at this blog will be able to place the subject of this first photo:
… which is a screen grab from the opening scenes of The Company We Keep, Matt Ramsey driving a van along Hollywood Blvd. and showing the marquee with Pleasure Beach as the main feature. So that was what the exterior looked like, probably 1983 I’d guess. One more, tying it back to Grease Monkeys, here is an ad for when the film opened on the same date at both Century theatres in June 1979, in LA and SF:
Just in time for pride weekend I’d guess! Thanks for sharing your virgin porn theatre experience, I’d wager to say your eyes were as open as Misty was that day! ;)
My first visit to an adult theatre was all gay, a strange and somewhat unique design of the interior of an old movie house in Denver, originally called the Webber:
But for me to tell the full story about the gay theatre hidden inside the bowels of the old building beneath the straight porn house that had taken over most of it, is too long for now, another time if you or anyone is ever interested. And this reply back to you is long enough. Suffice to say my eyes were opened to a lot in that place too! Cheers friend.

The “meat” in the sandwich, is what provides the flavor! I consider Knoll and Stanton, just the slices of bread! “A sandwich is just a sandwich. But a “manwich” is a meal!” Marlin makes the scene hearty! BURP!

Paul Strand was an early, gorgeous hunk!

Taken before what may have been his directorial debut in 1981.
