While I wish I had made more scans of the magazine’s contents, I really think if there were more Helmsman, I would’ve nabbed them. And he looks soooooooooooooooooo familiar, I am sure we will find him pop up somewhere else (I hope!) David Carter pops up in the Men of Action / Action Male magazine series; also in a Bunkhouse issue, if I remember correctly – so maybe Ken is there somewhere? Maybe a Man’s Image….?

David Carter was born in the Detroit area of Michigan, circa 1952. His studio was active in the 1970s and sold a line of mail order materials, including books, calendars, magazines, photo sets, slides, 8mm films, and videotapes. Carter also sold “Special Items and Services,” including a 30-minute custom-made videotape, personal phone calls, and articles of his personal clothing (jock straps, socks, underwear, and T-shirts) that he sealed in plastic bags after working out.
Although he specialized in California bodybuilders, he also produced The Mighty Loads series of films that featured “… not bodybuilders, but clean-cut, college athletic type men from age 18 to 22.” He also ran David Carter’s Modeling Agency. In 1976, he wrote The Iron Game, a novel about “the personal lives of the world’s top bodybuilders, and their secret desires.”

the “special items and personal services” doesn’t surprise me; I imagine a number of 70’s porn and body-building models made some decent money through mail order. And somewhere in the porn dungeon (basement) I have a copy of Iron Game – it doesn’t really interest me, but I purchased it to re-sell, and never got around to it. Now I am holding on to it, and other books, “just to have”

Most of David Carter’s loops were muscle solos like this one. I admit to being a “muscle queen”, though I’m not really into “muscle worship”. I find most porn solos, to be boring. ZZZzzz…
The exception would be some of the Colt muscle solos, because they’re well photographed. : P
What really interests me; were the “action” loops, David Carter made with other performers: Dick/Richard Miller, John Premier aka Long John aka Enrique Nieves, Mark Brandon aka Mark Wolf aka Dusty, Kirk Donovan, Brian Matthews, and perhaps, Erik Steed. : )

This one’s a bit better, but once again, that hair! It practically covers his face, like a mask or a hat – “HAIR STYLIST!” But he does look strong and powerful! : )

Ha! David Carter was quite an industrious guy. He was Also married 3 times and had (at least) 3 children. I am as far as I know his first child born in 76. Its cool to see the impact he left on the gay bodybuilding community. I’m not gay but his message was clear.. be who you are live your own life. IThanks for keeping his memory alive.
