I think so, you have to go by how the person self-identifies and that can change over the years. Jack has died, but when he was alive he was quoted as saying: “I’m not bisexual and I’m not straight. I’m gay, but I could never live a gay lifestyle, because I’m much too competitive. When I was with a guy I would always want to be better than him…” I think that quote might be from what he said in the documentary Anatomy Of An Icon, anyway it’s sourced on his wikipedia article, linked below:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Wrangler#Personal_life

I guess when he told Margaret Whiting he was gay, she quipped “just around the edges, dear” which is a great way to remember them both. But once they married he quit having sex with guys and just jacked off a lot, which he said he was quite good at and was enough for him by that time in his life.

ugh! i HATE – i mean LOATHE – that Margaret Whiting quote!! It’s so homophobic – I’m sure she was a fine partner for Jack, and their relationship shouldn’t be judged by any of us (not that I am saying any of you are) – but Jack is GAY! GAY GAY GAY. He says he’s wasn’t interested in the “gay lifestyle” – so whatever that means, its basically his understanding of the gay popular culture at the time, not where he likes to put his dick and whether other men’s dicks are in or around him. Reading his autobiography, you get that he only ever had sex with women for pay, in the movies – and he only made them because he wanted to work, be on the big screen, as he had oversaturated the gay market. He purchased gay porn, and eventually, eventually, gave up sex with men because the woman he loved (who he didn’t have sex with) demanded it. So he jacked off all the time, and as you can tell from his films, it’s probably his best sex skill.

Oops, sorry for tossing that Margaret quote in my comment. I always took it as more the kind of thing you’d hear in a nightclub act, sort of a Burns and Allen comedy sketch, or maybe even Sonny and Cher from their variety show where there’d be a set-up, a punchline, an expression of frustration on Jack’s face then everybody in the audience laughs. Ba-dum-bum-ching. The fact is that style of comedy did exist for many years and was very popular amongst the (mostly straight but even our gay forefathers and foremothers) masses and yes, for sure it always had sort of a groan quality to it. It never offended me though, if anything I thought it was her way of acknowledging Jack’s homosexuality which a lot of people then still refused to do, but putting a spin on it in the appearance of a joke so that it didn’t automatically exclude Jack from marrying a woman if he wanted to. Open to interpretation but [note to self] don’t quote Margaret Whiting around here!! Love ya BJ, even more than my luggage ;)

I don’t find that Whiting quip offensive either. She had to acclimate too, for chrissake. In that bio, he says, not particularly profoundly “I am a fucking faggot.” She knew that everybody knew he was gay, and, I think, rather enjoyed the notoriety it gave her; after all, nobody else with a big (or maybe semi-big) name was doing it. They were talked about a lot and got tons of publicity. When I met them, they were very easy and sweet with each other, all charm. He adored her, even if he didn’t want to fuck her (much, probably mostly at the beginning well before they got married.) I’m sure that, after a while, she was a bit too old and overly fleshy to keep it going, even had had some interest in women. She did know how to put herself together, no question, was from a well-known Beverly Hills family, and still sang beautifully (although by 1990, it had become a kind of baritone sound, which happens.)

I’m sure she got fucked some by Jack, even if it petered out after a while. I’ve seen one of the str8 films, I think it was Jack and Jill with Samantha Fox, but that’s another thing; it was very campy.

Well, so he had some sexual identity problems, they aren’t that uncommon. He also probably still did have some sex with guys (what Margaret doesn’t know won’t hurt her), although she primarily (at least this is my understanding) demanded that he get out of porn. After all, he was “movin’ on up”. He was from a well-to-do Hollywood family too, but not as high as hers. But the off-Broadway things never really took off for long, and he was too old to do any more gay performing (I don’t know how old Jeff Stryker was when he was off-Broadway doing Naked Boys Singing, one of the great titles of all time.) He was very close with 2 friends of mine, and coached them in some of their club acts, so he probably kept busy with various forms of entertainment in different guises.

But he’d be bound to have some problems with these things. Although not quite as lofty as Margaret’s family, his father was very successful as a director, and he may be the most so-called “upper class” pornstar–although to be accurate, I think you’d call him “upper-middle-class”. What was interesting was that they were sophisticated enough not to repudiate him in any way when he went into porn. That scene he describes with his sister and the thug breaking in was great.

I’m interested in this rather emotional insistence on GAY. I didn’t know it ran do deep. Does it mean you don’t look at handsome heterosexual men? or you just prefer men not to fuck women? and some other things? Sincerely interested. if it helps to prove it, I’ve got what some would consider my own kinks about certain types: I’ve known one lesbian that I’ve ever actually liked once I got to know her well, and she was bi. Otherwise, I do not like lesbians. I know it doesn’t work with LGBTQ+, but I don’t care, and don’t have an actual involvement with the group anyway.

I guess my share of friends is about 40% gay, 60% straight. Oh my goodness, I bet that’s enough to make me ostracized forever.

On a kind note, I think the emphasis on GAY! is what makes some of you rather amazing scholars on gay porn–some of you seem to know ALL of them. By today, I’m even able to say that it’s embarassing not to have ever heard of Boys in the Sand II. I knew the names of the directors like Poole and Deveau and Higgins, but usually just the titles of the films and actors. Till Poole’s recent passing, I didn’t know he directed either Bijou (maybe the first porn I saw in NYC) or Boys in the Sand.

So I guess I’m a bit of a parasite about some of this.

So is Jack Wrangler gay or straight- I’m still not clear.

JUST KIDDING!

On another note, I love this photo spread- very familiar. Although the golden filter doesn’t really work for me. Is it just me, or do Christmas and gay porn just not really go together? Is Christmas sexy? I don’t know.

I’ll certainly never tire of the naked guy hiding his junk with a big giftbox. In my bedroom. You got that, Santa?

Hi, Johnny. I don’t find Xmas and gay porn to go together generally, or really any of the big shapeless holidays–Halloween, Valentine’s Day, etc., and I know Valentine’s Day is popular. I guess there’s no way to do Thanksgiving, thank god. Easter might be a hoot, and somebody might do a hilarious something or other for Yom Kippur. The new Juneteenth might whip out some big black studs which might be enough to be just self-explanatory. However, any of them are all right if they get the right model and design the photo right.

I do like that picture of Jack with the gold filter, for examply. Once in a while I’ve seen holiday porn pictures that work for me, but never that much.

I completely agree, Parisian. Christmas doesn’t always feel sexy. Although there are always exceptions.

I like the Jack Wrangler pic as well- it’s a hot photo! Are there any UNhot photos of Jack? I just don’t care for the gold filter.

The George Payne one, not so much. His eyes aren’t really open and I just want to tear that bow off! Maybe wrap it around his dick or something. No. I just don’t need the bow. Wrap him up in leather? Love that!
