I just love this. I’m so glad you didn’t forget the dirty books! How great is dirty book cover art? I mean, this post has become all about Gary Boyd, who I think is as great as any other retro gay porn star, but I love the old book covers. Cheaply made paperback dirty books. The other thing that fills me with nostalgia: just like with dirty gay mags, you never knew what you were going to get in a dirty gay book. Unless you knew the author. But mostly it was a crap shoot. Sometimes you’d luck out and it’d be really steamy, but just as often the writing was so bad that it was barely worth reading! I can laugh about it now. Back when I was buying these books, it was hugely disappointing when you got a stinker. Just like with the monthly mags!
