Strange Places… Strange Things!
Director: Al Parker (1985)
starring: David Ashfield, Derrick Stanton, Scott Taylor, Ivan, Melchor, Michael Charles, Rydar Hanson, Tony Kennedy
pretty much 4 unrelated “loops” – except they are tied together by being located in “Strange Places” –
- Manhole – David Ashfield and Michael Charles portray two maintenance men working in the sewer (and on each other!)
- Scott Taylor plays a delivery guy with a damaged package, and customer Ivan won’t accept the package (of vacuum pumps) until it’s examined properly – the “strange place” is Ivan’s living room
- Melchor plays doctor to Rydar Hanson.
- Derrick Stanton and Tony Kennedy do it on a scaffold high in the air.
I love Al’s dry narration – but it doesn’t seem to match what we’re seeing! The music is great, by Red Wedding – wonder if
Dark Entries Records is considering working on a re-release (or likely, a first release) of Red Wedding’s music?

The song from the preview sounds awfully familiar to me, I suppose it could be from another porn film but I’m thinking it’s another stolen song as Al and Surge Studio did fairly often. If you listen to the audio in the preview for Flashback (which I may have gotten from you here) at one point while Al is talking on the phone I’m pretty sure you hear the Clash song Magnificent Seven. And of course the Art Of Noise’s Moments In Love during the car wash scene in One In A Billion. I’ve never used shazam but we’ve talked about it before, if you ran it on the preview for Strange Places you posted above and it matched a known song I’d love to know what it is.
the music in the movie is by Red Wedding – which is not to say its the same music in this preview – alas, often the previews DO use other music. As far as FLASHBACK goes, this is what my (eBay) notes say: Jean Michel Jarre, instrumental of Police’s Voice’s Inside My Head, and more – so now THAT’s another project – maybe if I can digitize, we can do a group project?
dammit! I have stuff to do today! I just plugged in Flashback, and the intro Al Parker strip scene features
Brian Briggs – AEO
as the music… no, really, i got OTHER STUFF to do…
Do your other stuff today, I’m having tech issues on my end anyway. But yes that sounds fun for a music nerd like me! For some reason the songs Magnificent Seven (Clash) and Voices Inside My Head (Police) remind me of each other, I think I have a DJ audio set by somebody like Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles or Shep Pettibone that has both of those songs on it and that’s just how my brain works.
My notes for when I made the youtube clip for Games shows that in that movie he used I Don’t Know What It Is (Pete Shelley), Glow (James Last), Sunrise (Rose Royce) and at least one of the Forbidden Overture songs that you shared the high quality versions of once. So Al clearly didn’t see a problem with borrowing/stealing music in this way, or maybe the penalties for doing so hadn’t caught up to him and Surge yet. I’ve also noticed previews that use music never found in the film before.
David Ashfield always gave me a stoner vibe in his films, at least in this one they gave him a joint to smoke on camera to make it seem even more legit! He was an ultimate fantasy of mine from the first time I saw him doing porn, the thick and always super hard dick of course was his calling card but something about his persona just drove me crazy.
I figured out where I’ve heard the music from this preview clip, it’s in the opening credits of the film Oversize Load which means it was made by Spider & Michael. So the Red Wedding credit from the Strange Places film (not preview) is probably right, and Al just used some other music he had licensed before for this preview, if that makes sense. Spider & Michael were also the musicians credited for at least one other Surge film, Hard Disk Drive. Not sure what the actual music in Strange Places sounds like or of it’s any good, but if Dark Entries is raiding classic porn soundtracks, then either Red Wedding or Spider & Michael could be interesting paths to explore alongside Forbidden Overture.
If you wanted to do a group project devoted solely to the musical side of porn (which sounds fun to me) then reddit could be where we congregate that, then it doesn’t take away from the primary focus of the pics and clips that you post here on your blog. I could set something like that up, we could keep it private or restricted to just a few people that way too at least for a while, if any of that sounds interesting to you let me know.
this interests me, as long as I am free to take the work product and bring it back here – also – not sure how to post pics, etc – or I just dedicate a post to the “work project” and folks who just stumble in might be of help…
