Saturday evening, we had an early dinner so we could catch the sunset at Herring Cove, but pulling into the parking lot there we could already see right whales in the distance. The lot looked full, the car kept slowly moving, and I felt an anxious panic as I couldn’t get out of the car. They laughed at me as we found a spot, the car finally stopped, and I ran out, pulling the camera out and heading down toward the water’s edge. As it turns out, we had about 10-15 minutes left before the sun actually set, but even after that, it’s glow was enough to keep me and my camera pointed out and snapping pics, and a couple of videos, including this one, for another half hour. It was the 3rd day of spotting right whales from the beach, and with the gorgeous sunset, the crowded beach of onlookers (oohs and ahhs, and some had been there so long watching that their conversations changed to where to eat, and how chilly it had become), and the wonderful dilemma of not knowing which direction to point the camera, the scene was overwhelmingly amazing. My partner and his best friend retreated to the car to warm up, as I continued snapping and looking. Finally, a message popped up on the camera – memory card full, but I couldn’t stop looking, and even used the camera to zoom in and get closer looks. Such beautiful animals, such a beautiful place, and such a beautiful life I have somehow managed to create with my sweet sweet man.
