All I want is to breathe

Won’t you breathe with me?

i was going to write something here, with this picture and this tune….. something about friendships, and college in 1980, and some other stuff. but i got sidetracked, and as often happens more and more over the past couple of years, thought i’d let those thoughts stay churning in my head, mulling stuff over, and maybe, but probably not, return here to flesh them out.

but still, there’s this – like my new friend?

“Put your hair on my shoul-derrrrr…”

A correction: The song you reference is “Born Under Punches,” but the link is for “Crosseyed and Painless.” Same album, same side, though…I know this because when I was in college in 1980, I listened to “Remain in Light” as much as I listened to anything else. [It came out during 1st semester freshman year.] I was smoking thai stick in somebody’s room while RIL was playing, and I got this huge rush when I discovered that, as the album played on, the songs got progressively slower and slower. “Ohhh, WOW!!!!!!!!”

oh how embarrassing! fixing as i type this. Ah,,, so you are one year younger than me. It was sophomore year in college for me, and i was smoking pot with my roommate while listening to a friend’s radio show (we had a 10-watt college radio station) and he came over after his show to play the album for us. just the first 15 seconds of the album, Born Under Punches —— BLEW ME AWAY!

I used to thnk of side 1 and side 2 as totally different albums. Side 1 is clearly and extension of I Zimbra from the previous album, FEAR OF MUSIC. I could never play just one tune form that side, all three had to bew played together. And Once In A Lifetime sounds like it easily could fit on SP EAK IN GI N TO NGU ES.
